Common problems are typo's in the nameserver's, or in the IP address.

There are different types of record in the domain name system, some of these types are NS (nameserver), A (alias), cname (reference), TXT (text) and more.

A-records point the domain, or sub-domain to an IP address, and in turn an IP address is assigned to a server.

NS-records show which servers serve the records for the domain name in question, these can point to either another domain name (or sub domain) or IP address.

CNAME records basically allow you to point one record, to another, so you only need to set the IP in the A record, and can then point a CNAME record to the A record, both will point to the IP address, but you only need to change one record to update the IP address.

TXT records are normally just text, however with the introduction of SPF records (that are actually TXT records) they can serve more of a functional purpose.

SPF records are a text based record that lists who is allowed to send mail from this domain, this helps to cut down spam. There are many sites online that will allow you to create a SPF record to paste in to your TXT record.

If you are having trouble with your IP address being blacklisted, often by places such as spamhaus or uceprotect, then a dnsbl lookup can help you.

When a mail server receives an email, it checks the IP address the mail is coming from against one or more dns based blacklists (dnsbl). These lists contain IP addresses that are known to be sending spam, or have sent spam.

Our dnsbl lookup will check many dns based blacklists to allow you to quickly and easily check in one place.
